Porter Porter Township, located in the southwest quadrant of Porter County, is primarily a stable mix of suburban and rural residences. Small subdivisions, along with a large subdivision—Lakes of the Four Seasons, dot the crop fields and countryside. There aren’t any major industries located in Porter Township. As a result most township residences experience employment in various industries surrounding the township. Proximity to a major metropolitan center (Chicago) enhances the diverse fields of employment that our township experiences. The majority of our population is Caucasian. The Porter Township School Corporation (PTSC) has an enrollment of 1471 students for the 2013-2014 school year. Of the students enrolled, 22% qualify for free or reduced priced meals. For the past five years, PTSC has conducted a series of eLearning Days. Each year there are 7-8 days during which the students participate in learning activities delivered digitally through Moodle or My Big Campus. PTSC has utilized these days K-12; although, currently it is utilized with only the students at Boone Grove Middle School (grades 6-8) and at Boone Grove High School (grades 9-12). While the students are at home completing their work, teachers are in the school buildings available to respond to student questions/needs. Staff are also participating in professional development throughout the day. Professional development opportunities have included curriculum mapping, common assessment construction, data collection, data mapping, using student data to drive instruction, digital content creation and management, and development of curriculum. Students who have special needs that would be difficult to meet through online content delivery attend classes in the building. The building is also open to students that do not have a device or internet at home. According to survey data collected in 2014, 99.33% of students in the district have access to a device at home and 98.65% of students have internet at home.
